ATS Costume Makeover
(Part One)
You know, every time I have ever dressed for an ATS performance I always managed to get something wrong. Wrong colors, wrong flowers, wrong hair, wrong something! Sometimes I’d get more than one thing wrong.
If I could just get the main pieces or idea correct then I could build from there. To solve my ATS costume struggle I called in Becka Bomb. She is my ATS dance sister. I admire her sense of style and she always looks completely put together on stage. Whatever style she is dancing she always manages to nail the look perfectly.
(Part Two)
So, Becka gave me an ATS makeover. It was fun, informative, and she let me in on a few secrets on how to create the ATS style. As well as a few do’s and dont’s.
I can honestly say that the next time I am dressed for the ATS belly dance occasion I will feel confident in the way I look.

PS-Many Thanks to Becka!
Becka’s Flower Clip
When I did my ATS Costume makeover with Becka she explained how to make a simple flower clip. Prior to Becka’s ATS costume tips, I was wearing neon flowers in my hair. I tossed those and went out and bought all the vibrant, more natural looking flowers you see in the photo. I plan to have a “Craft Day” soon with the entire day dedicated to making Flower Clips.
See how simple it is in this short clip. (ha,ha)

Cues & Tattoos 2012 Instructor Performance
(Music Credit: Feast of Dionysus on Tribal Collaborations)
Here is a quick glimpse of what you missed if you didn’t make it to Cues & Tattoos 2012.
This is the Instructor Performance. It was a fabulous show of talented dancers that had quite a few surprises. Troupe Hipnotica broke out with a live violinist, Gordon Assadi and some amazing props (I’ll get the name later) that had the audience in awe. I didn’t get a good picture, sorry. I was struggling between trying to watch and figure out how to get the whole thing into focus. I am still learning. I am not at all technical. So, be patient. Check back often and see how I grow into photography.
Anyway, back to the show….Though every performance was outstanding, the buzz in the lobby after the show was all about the stunning, dazzling costumes/skirts of WildCard BellyDance.
“Where did they get those skirts?” Did you see those skirts?” “I want one of those skirts”
Praise to the skirt designer ! Praise to the dancers of WildCard BellyDance, you ladies sure did those skirts justice. You rocked !
That’s all for now. Hope to see you at the next event.
Thanks for stopping by. More photos to come.

Intermediate Tribal Skirt Instructional Video
Don’t you just love it? Wish you could do it? Well, now you can. Shannon, director of Divine Chaos Tribal has produced a new instructional video that teaches how to do Tribal Skirt. Yes, Tribal Skirt. Meaning that it has cues to follow. And it is all skirt moves. Spinning, whirling, twirling in a whirlwind of grace, color, and beauty.
I take the class with Shanon and Tammy of DC Tribal at Plaza de Anaya in Tempe, AZ. I bought the dvd to practice at home. I ended up giving it to my daughter (with a new skirt for an incentive) who lives in Nevada. Once she learns the moves, which by the way are very easy to follow because of how simply Shannon breaks down the moves, Destiny and I will soon be able to dance together. I am so looking forward to it. (I’ll post our first dance together.
)
Now is your chance to jump on the Tribal Skirt band wagon and dance with us. I can’t express often enough how much I love DC Tribal Skirt.
Here’s where YOU can order the dvd: www.dc-tribal.com
Don’t get left behind in our whirling skirt dust !

Behind Mandala DanceWorks with Karin Jensen
I know, I know, it’s taken me weeks to add something new to Tribal Dance Nation. So, let me just cut to the chase, I had a wonderful interview with Karin of Mandala DanceWorks.
Mandala DanceWorks is a fabulously, creative troupe of modern, tribal fusion dancers. Karin Jensen, the choreographer and coordinator of the troupe gives us some insight on where she gets her inspiration and tells us about the upcoming Tribal Evocation (a series Mandala DanceWorks workshops) as well as their exciting performance during The Massive Spectacular.
Karin is an innovative choreographer for a talented, fun, and talented group of women. Learn about who she is, who they are, and make sure you get a chance to see them perform. I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised !
Enjoy !

Paige Lawrence:Basic Belly Dance Class and Launch Party
I met Mr. Paige Lawrence at Tribal Fest 10 in Heather Shoopman’s workshop.
During the workshop Heather asked us to pair up with someone and we had to mirror on another’s dance moves. Wouldn’t you know it? I was standing closest to Paige. I hadn’t met him before and had never seen him perform.
I went first. Doing some extreme, beginner fusion move, (because that’s all I know) and Paige mirrors me. Then it is his turn. He does something simple and I mirror him. He is sweet, soft spoken with a great smile.
We complete the exercise with a few more moves. Paige is very easy to follow. And I get out of there with my dignity in tact. Because later on I see Paige perform on stage an KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was holding back A LOT!
Thanks Paige!
Well, here he is. Paige is now teaching a Basic Belly dance Class in Oakland California. The studio is called Danspace and Paige will be teaching weekly on Tuesday, from 8:00pm-9:30pm. First class starts on Tuesday,January 17, 2012 followed by a “Launch Party”
You can find more information on facebook: Basic Belly Dance w/Paige Lawrence
Take a look at the videos posted here and see what a great person Paige is and what a phenomenal performer he is, as well.
If you are in the Oakland area and thinking about taking Tribal Fusions style belly dance be sure to take a class or session(s) with Paige. You’ll have a blast and learn a great deal of awesome moves.
Try it out and let me know how it goes.
